New Victory Hall Overview

The New Victory Hall, whilst being 21st century in appearance, will be one of the most eco-friendly village halls anywhere, built largely from timber-frame and straw. A number of other important eco-friendly design features will also be incorporated, such as low energy lighting, solar (Ground Source Heat Pump) heating and green roofs. Use of natural heating and ventilation systems will be maximised to keep the energy requirement for the new building as low as possible.

The Trustees intend to keep the carbon footprint during the construction phase as low as practically and financially possible. The straw will, for example, come from the surrounding fields and the Trustees are actively encouraging community participation with aspects of the construction, such as building and rendering the circular meeting room.

A modular design has been selected to allow for future expansion options, which have already been considered in some detail.

The building will comprise a main hall, kitchen, separate meeting room, adult and children toilets, storage space and a circulation area (‘the Street’). It is designed to meet the needs of the community and to allow at least two user-groups to use the facilities concurrently.

The project budget is £510,000 and the building work is scheduled for completion in August 2009.
